[1. What's next for you?
My next meet will be Kyle's meet on the 28th. I hope to use it to qualify for the APF Seniors. I will enter the APF Masters Nationals again this year as well as the Senior Nationals. I really want to go back to the WPC Worlds again!!!
2. What equipment do you use/recomend?
Right now I squat in an Inzer Leviathon with Predator briefs; I bench in a Metal Viking shirt; and dead in a single-ply Titan suit with the Predator briefs. I don't have any sponsors yet, so I will wear-use anything that I think will add to my total.
3. Who's your biggest rival?
Father Time and myself. Over the years I have beaten myself more times than anyone else. You would think that by now I would have learned better, but my ego can still get the best of me.
4. State of the sport right now?
I believe the sport is beginning to re-emerge in popularity. The heyday of the sport was in the early 80's and then politics sent it to obscure Hell. If we can avoid the same old traps and continue with the same momentum and spirit of camaraderie that we seem to have developed here in North Carolina, then I believe this sport will surpass its old peak of popularity.
5. What supplements do you use if any?
Hell, at my age I'm afraid I'd die if I didn't supplement. Not getting into brands because I change frequently, I take a multi-vit pak, extra C, fish oil, B-12, glucosamine, condroitan, msm, glutamine, whey protein, mixed protein, creatine, ephedrine, ibuprofen, Tylenol, etc. The list goes on. If I think it will make me stronger, recuperate faster, and hurt less, then I've probably used it.
6. Favorite lifter all time?
When I first started into the sport 20 years ago, Ed Coan was the man. Now I have so many favorites. I have learned so much from all the people I've trained with and when I say to someone that, " you're my hero ", I really mean it. I'm inspired by all of you.
7. Diet advice (if you have any)?
I generally eat a pretty clean diet, but I'm far from being an angel. I believe you should eat any way you have to in order to improve your peformance and stay in your weight class. Right now I'm trying to gain weight so pretty much anything slower than me could be considered food!!
8. Any regrets in the sport/ greatest acheivment?
One of my biggest regrets was giving up the sport for a long period of time following some back-to-back injuries. The sport had at that time lost most of its popularity and I just didn't have the heart to come back at the time. I hope to never again make a mistake like that.
My greatest achievment is ongoing, a work in progress. With the help and support of my friends, both old and new, I am becoming fairly competitive again( in spite of my advanced age). I'm beginning to believe that the only limits are the ones I chain myself to.
9. Type of training you follow?
Carolina style. It incorporates some Westside, Metal Militia, along with some unique exercises devised by our own group of lifters.
10. Blanket statement you would like to be remembered by?
Be the best competitor and friend that you can be. When you can help someone else reach their goals, then you will get closer to reaching yours.
I would like to take the opportunity to thank my very understanding wife and my friends for all of their support, I would never have accomplished anything without you. We may not be related by birth, but you are my family by choice. Also, thanks to Barry for the chance to be long-winded( not that I ever am ), and for keeping this site open in the hopes that this new found spirit of powerlifting will grow!!
